We have a new player in the pre-Comic Con asset camp as Columbia Pictures released a video today and opened up the OmniCorp website as part of the viral campaign for the upcoming Robocop reboot to be directed by Jose Padhila and starring Joel Kinnaman in the lead role.
The viral appears to be a lot like what Fox was doing before Prometheus hit theaters when they establishe3d Weyland Industries online and released a series of videos and schematics for products the fictional company makes up to and including Michael Fassbender’s android character, David.
With Robocop it’s the obvious ED-209. For those of you that have seen and remember the original (and if you don’t I included a video reminder up above), ED can be a bit touchy and when he goes haywire all hell breaks loose. I can only assume, based on the fact ED is front and center here, we’re going to experience something similar in the reboot.
Just below I have included the viral product reel video along with a second image of the XT-908 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, which looks to be a new addition that wasn’t in the original film… unless I am forgetting something.
Robocop is set to hit theaters on August 9, 2013 and along with Kinnaman the cast currently includes Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish and Hugh Laurie.
