Here we go again, the casting for the second installment in the Hunger Games franchise, the officially titled The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is underway as speculation has been put to rest and Jena Malone will play Johanna Mason, a role that will also see her starring in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, which is expected to be broken up into two parts and released in 2013 and 2014.
Mason, as a character, is referred to as an ax-wielding former Hunger Games winner from District 7, who aligns with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) in their return to the arena for an all-star death match. Her introduction in the story is one I expect will either be toned down or shot showing only Malone’s ankles and from her shoulders up as Mason first appears naked in an elevator with Katniss and Peeta.
The film is expected to get underway this September with Francis Lawrence directing for a November 22, 2013 release.
