Bart Layton‘s much talked about documentary The Imposter made waves at Sundance earlier this year, was picked up by Indomina (which recently acquired the rights to Leos Carax‘s Cannes standout Holy Motors) and recently played the Seattle Film Festival. Frustratingly enough, for me, it played the Seattle Film Festival at all the wrong times. First it played while I was in France and second it played as I was enduring Snow White and the Huntsman. Suffice to say, I missed my chance to see it early.
As a result, I will be anxiously awaiting it’s July 13 release because it’s one I really want to see and after the first trailer was pulled from the Internet, Indomina has finally released an official trailer via Apple, but first, here’s the synopsis.
It’s 1994: a 13-year-old boy disappears from his home in San Antonio, Texas. Three and a half years later, he is found alive, thousands of miles away, in Spain. Disoriented and quivering with fear, he divulges his shocking story of kidnap and torture. His family is overjoyed to bring him home. But all is not what it seems. Sure, he has the same tattoos, but he looks decidedly different, and he now speaks with a strange accent. Why doesn’t the family seem to notice these glaring inconsistencies? It’s only when an investigator starts asking questions that this astounding true story takes an even stranger turn.
I watched the first trailer so I skipped this one as my interest is already piqued, but why don’t you give it a watch and see what you think. I have a feeling this is gonna be a good one.
