I am leaving for a screening party put on by The Weinstein Co. here in Cannes very shortly where footage from Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, David O. Russell‘s The Silver Linings Playbook and Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master will be screened. The news of the Django footage surprised no one, but the fact some of PTA’s The Master would be on display shocked everyone. Well, get ready for another shock…
Not only will footage from the film be screened for press inside the next couple hours, but the first footage from The Master is now available online courtesy of on of the film’s producers Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures who posted a link via her Twitter account.
This first look features Joaquin Phoenix who plays a Navy man who will eventually come to meet the film’s title character played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman, a man who returns after witnessing the horrors of WWII and tries to rediscover who he is in post-war America and creates a belief system, something that catches on with other lost souls.
Check out the clip below and stay tuned as I will have a full reaction from tonight’s Weinstein presentation later today.
