The Twitter account for the upcoming Les Miserables feature from director Tom Hooper and starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe tweeted out the above behind-the-scenes image from the film noting “London’s landmark Old Naval College has become Paris in 1832.” [source]
Nick Cassavetes (whom I will always remember from his role in Face/Off more than anything else) will direct Cali starring Kristen Stewart. Described as a gritty action feature, the script was written by Michael Diliberti (30:Minutes or Less), and follows a pair of San Fernando Valley lovebirds who sell a fake snuff film and ride off with a bundle of cash. Years later, the girl (Stewart) must “return from the dead” to save the younger sister she left behind. Filming is expected to begin late this summer. [source]
The Maleficent film starring Angelina Jolie in the title role has added some impressive names including Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Kenneth Cranham, Sam Riley and Lesley Manville.
The film is described as a deconstruction of the “Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale told from the perspective of the princess’ evil nemesis, Maleficent (Jolie). Elle Fanning will play Princess Aurora, the young beauty sent into a lengthy slumber in the classic tale and Sharlto Copley is already aboard as Stefan, the half-human, half-fairy bastard son of the human king.
Mike Leigh regulars Staunton and Manville are playing Knotgrass and Flittle, respectively, two of the three pixies who end up taking care of Aurora. Richardson will play Queen Ulla, a fairy queen who is Maleficent’s aunt — and dislikes her niece. Cranham will play the human king who plots to conquer the fairy kingdom. Riley takes the role of Diaval, a raven who changes into human form and is Maleficent’s right hand.
Directed by Robert Stromberg, the film is set for a March 14, 2014 release. [source]
I learned some sad news today, which is that I won’t be able to see David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis at Cannes as it screens the day after I leave. Sad times. However, if you’re interested you can listen to some of Howard Shore and Metric’s score for the film by clicking here. [source]
Here’s a new clip from Snow White and the Huntsman featuring Snow White (Kristen Stewart) and the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and a giant troll.
Back in April (read Iron Man 3. The Internet minions took this to mean she had been cast and yesterday every single movie blog on the face of the planet wrote an article about how she wouldn’t be in the film. The “news” of her non-involvement in a film she was never signed on to star in came from her very own Facebook page where she wrote:
Sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn’t going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can’t fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I’m so sorry to disappoint you. Hopefully there’ll be another Marvel film in my future. Shane Black and everyone on the IM3 team are really wonderful. I’m very excited to see the film when it comes out. xx
Awwww, she’s so nice. [source]
Finally, here’s a new G.I. Joe: Retaliation TV spot from Japan followed by one hell of an ugly final poster for the film.
