A nice group of behind-the-scenes goodies have popped up online related to The Avengers and while you may be getting a little tired of hearing about the film already I thought this batch of stuff concerning the team that helped writer/director Joss Whedon and his cast put together the box-office behemoth was worth sharing.
First off I have two video pieces, the first comes from the SoundWorks Collection taling with Avengers supervising Sound Editor, Sound Designer, and Re-recording Mixer Christopher Boyes. While the score didn’t necessarily impress me, the sound design of the film actually did as I could feel the theater rumbling all around me and I think come Oscar time, Boyes’ work on this film may be something we are discussing. After all, it’s not as if he is unfamiliar with the little golden man having won four times before for Peter Jackson’s King Kong, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Pearl Harbor and a little film called Titanic. He was nominated 9 other times.
Next we have what might be a little more interesting for the effects lovers out there as CG Society, FX Guide and Studio Daily have all taken various approaches to exploring the visual effects work put in by ILM, The Third Floor, Luma Pictures, Fuel VFX, Method Design and Evil Eye Pictures from previs, postvis, plate work and more.
The most detailed of the bunch is the lengthy piece over at FX Guide, which covers just about everything touched upon by the other two and then some. It also has some concept work that went into Iron Man’s targeting reticle design, a look at the making of the end credits, working with the greens necessary for the Hulk and a CG-rendered Manhattan.
Featured below are six pieces of previs and postvis images compared to their final render in the film, just click on any one of the thumbnails to begin exploring.
And finally, as the header says, this is a featurette provided by The Daily looking at some of ILM’s contributions to the feature.
