Pixar’s Updated Film Slate and a Lazy ‘Muppets 2’ Poster

Let’s begin with what is being called “early art” for The Muppets 2. While technically accurate, for an organization such as Disney to put such a small amount of effort into their product is a tad embarrassing. Really? All you could manage is the exact same logo as the first film with two Muppet fingers? Yeah, way to convince your audience you care.

Moving along…

Pixar has offered an update to their upcoming film slate beginning with what was previously known as director Bob Peterson‘s untitled film and targeted for a November 27, 2013 release, The Good Dinosaur will now open on May 30, 2014, which leaves Monsters University as the lone 2013 Pixar flick, hitting theaters on June 21, 2013.

Not a lot is known about The Good Dinosaur outside of its pondering synopsis asking, What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? “What if?” indeed.

Next we come to Pete Docter‘s still untitled new film, which he’ll be co-directing with Ronnie del Carmen, which is described as a feature that will take audiences on incredible journeys into extraordinary worlds: from the darkest depths of the ocean to the top of the tepui mountains in South America; from the fictional metropolis of Monstropolis to a futuristic fantasy of outer space. The inventive new film will take you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind.

This film was previously set for a May 30, 2014 release but has now been moved to June 19, 2015.

And finally we come to Toy Story 3-director Lee Unkrich and his new project, an untitled feature centering on the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos, a celebration where friends and family come together to pray for and remember those close to them that have passed on. This film is so far undated, but based on the release dates for the two films above I have to assume we’re looking at a 2016 release.

Additional upcoming Pixar releases include the upcoming June release Brave, the 3-D re-release of Finding Nemo on September 14, 2012 and a 3-D release of Monsters, Inc. on January 18, 2013 in advance of Monsters University next June.
