People premiered the image you see to the right of Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock in the upcoming film Hitchcock (previously known as Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho).
The feature got underway last week on Friday the 13th (natch) and is based on Stephen Rebello‘s 1998 non-fiction book “Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho” and tracks how Hitchcock, at the height of his game as a director, decided to make a ‘lowly’ horror movie. No studio wanted to touch it initially so Hitchcock scrounged for financing by himself. The film will center on the relationship between Hitchcock (Hopkins) and his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren).
Joining Hopkins and Mirren in the feature are Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, Toni Collette as Peggy Robertson, Danny Huston as Whitfield Cook, Michael Stuhlbarg as Lew Wasserman, Michael Wincott as Psycho‘s muse Ed Gein, Kurtwood Smith as Geoffrey Shurlock and the Karate Kid himself, Ralph Macchio as Psycho screenwriter Joe Stefano.
The film is being directed by Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) and will be released by 20th Century Fox in 2013.
Looking at the picture here, what do you think? Pretty impressive makeup work if you ask me and a role that has obvious potential for Hopkins to earn his fifth Oscar nomination.
