The Avengers premiered in Hollywood on Wednesday night and the early reactions are storming into Twitter from the movie blogger sect and the reactions are mostly positive.
Alex Billington from FirstShowing.net called it, “Epic,” adding, “Everyone fights everyone, but it does deliver. Marvel’s movies get better every single one. Hulk! HULK!!”
Steven Weintraub from Collider.com said he “absolutely loved” the film and “was smiling from beginning to end.” He adds,” If you’re a Marvel fan you’re going to lose your shit in the theater.” Nah, no exaggerating there. Weintraub continues the Hulk love adding, “Also, the two things that made The Avengers amazing: the Hulk and the humor. Joss Whedon gets a 10 out of 10 on both of those.”
Jeremy Smith from AintItCoolNews called it “the best Marvel movie yet,” while seeming to have a few problems with the first two acts.
Germain Lussier from Slashfilm was also highly positive posting, “I’d tweet about The Avengers but my body is still recovering from non-stop geeking out. So, so, so much fun (for the most part).” I guess that last part is in there to ensure his hyperbole has a limit. After all, a film can only be so, so, so much fun.
The pic to the right was posted by Samuel L. Jackson hanging out with co-star Scarlett Johansson at the premiere.
Devin Faraci from Badass Digest was a little more hesitant suggesting it’s not worth seeing before addressing writer/director Joss Whedon saying, “That’ll do, Joss, that’ll do.”
Jen Yamato from Movieline had other things on her mind than 3-D when she tweeted, “The Avengers was big, messy, fun. More importantly there’s now nothing but Hawkeye fanfic swimming around in my head.”
Entertainment Weekly‘s Anthony Breznican was also positive saying, “Seriously, if comic book movies are your thing, you will be fully satisfied by the concoction Joss Whedon has fixed for you with The Avengers.” And then Peter Sciretta from Slashfilm tweets, “The Avengers is pretty epic. There is probably more action in this film’s climax than all the other Marvel movie [sic] combines! [sic]”
Seth Green (yes, that Seth Green) tweeted, “So that was AMAZING. Like, double plus awesome. Thank you Joss Whedon for giving us all the The Avengers movie we deserve.”
Variety‘s Josh Dickey (whom I had a Twitter conversation with last year after he hated Drive) tweeted, “Not a false note. Innovative. BRUTAL. And goddamn funny. Hype = believe it.”
Chris Hardwick from Nerdist.com called it “delightful kick-assery” and also posted the image at the top of this post and Eric Goldman from IGN.com tweets, “[Mark] Ruffalo is terrific as Bruce Banner. Makes the role his, big time.”
And that pretty much does it, but speaking of Ruffalo and noting the love for the Hulk, earlier today SuperheroHype posted the cover from “Muscle and Fitness” I’ve included at the bottom of this post. It features Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk from and a teaser that says “Get huge like the Hulk with our real-life routine.” I wonder how many needles and pills that routine involves.
Full reviews for The Avengers have been embargoed until May 2. The film opens on May 4 and if you haven’t caught up on all the recent TV spots and pictures I’ve been posting you might want to click here and catch up.
