On top of the film below, I watched the season finale of “The River”, which came to a close much better than I expected it would and actually pulled off about 50% of what I hoped for before I started watching. I also watched the Blu-ray for Chinatown, which I’m trying to work on an angle to write about it so look for that soon.
The Blind Side (2009)
For the life of me I didn’t remember it being so juvenile. ABC Family is a perfect place for this film, it plays like a made-for-TV movie and I was a bit light on the script, which almost reaches hack levels at times. I stand by my review, however, as at the time I was expecting so much worse, but once you’ve removed yourself from the moment, the marketing and the buzz you’re able to see it a bit clearer for what it really is.
If there was ever a reason for Bullock to win the Oscar for her performance, outside of the buzz that surrounded the possibility, it’s because her character is the film’s strength and she does deliver a performance above the script’s weaknesses. In those terms, I guess her performance will be able to stand the test of time in the sense that it does stand above the film itself, but The Blind Side is unlikely to ever become much of a classic.
So there it is… Considering the box-office results I’m assuming some of you saw The Hunger Games this weekend… What did you think and what else did you watch?
