Columbia Pictures will distribute MGM‘s Robocop, the remake of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven-directed science fiction film that will star Joel Kinnaman in the role originated by Peter Weller and will be directed by Jose Padilha (Elite Squad). [source]
Zoe Saldana is set to join Christan Bale in Out of the Furnace for Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper. The film is described as a gritty throwback to 1970s movies that’s based on Brad Ingelsby‘s script “The Low Dweller.” Story follows an ex-con bent on avenging the death of his younger brother as soon as he’s released from prison. Casey Affleck is reportedly in negotiations as well. [Variety]
Elizabeth Olsen confirmed to The Playlist that she has had conversations to star in Spike Lee‘s Oldboy remake and while she doesn’t say she has the role she admits her love for Lee’s films and adds, “What’s really cool is the Korean movie is what people in the world of films would have seen, like people who like foreign films would have seen it, but a general American audience, I doubt they know the twists and turns of the original, so it’ll surprise them. And I think its such a good movie, so that would be cool.” [source]
Dwayne Johnson has signed on to star in Ciudad, an intense action thriller to be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (You, Me And Dupree) based on the upcoming Oni Press graphic novel that the Russo Brothers co-wrote with Ande Parks. Set in one of the most dangerous and corrupt cities in the world, the thriller will star Johnson as a black market mercenary hired by a Brazilian drug lord to rescue his kidnapped daughter. [source]

Sylvester Stallone‘s Bullet to the Head was all set for an April 13 release when Warner Bros. removed it from the schedule. Now word is Stallone is now personally overseeing a new – and presumably final – cut of the film which was originally directed by Walter Hill. Apparently November is the potentially new date. Of course, Warner Bros. and Hill deny the whole thing in a message posted over at IGN. [source]
Kristen Bell has been attached to provide the speaking and singing voice as the lead in Disney’s upcoming animated feature Frozen, an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen.” She has also signed on to star in Some Girls, Jennifer Getzinger‘s adaptation of Neil LaBute‘s play. She will star alongside Adam Brody who plays a man who attempts to make amends with several ex-girlfriends on the eve of his wedding. [source]

Scott Rosenberg (Con Air, High Fidelity) has been hired to polish and punch-up the Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely penned script for Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain. Bay has gone on record saying the dark-comedy has “No action” and “One car crash.” Perhaps Rosenberg has been brought in to remedy the situation. The movie will shoot in Miami later in March.
