’50 First Dates’ Movie Review (2004)

Hey guys, I have good news for you. If you felt you were in for it by taking your girl to go see 50 First Dates on Valentine’s Day then guess again.

I went in to this flick expecting just another Adam Sandler flick in the midst of his downward spiral of similar movies that will become less and less capable of bringing home box office numbers, but what I got was more than that.

Yeah, it is no different than his other flicks, filled with cameo appearances of people we have seen in other Sandler flicks, namely Waterboy, but the characters are unique enough that it doesn’t really matter. While the awkward placed jokes can become a bit tedious they do help, just as does the comic relationship Sandler’s character has with the animals he cares for.

You see, Adam Sandler plays Henry Roth a local marine biologist living in Hawaii and he is quite the womanizer, but his tune soon changes once he meets Lucy Whitmore (Barrymore). Lucy, unfortunately, has this slight memory problem due to a car crash where she lost the ability any memories from the prior day.

Henry sees this as a problem and is even discouraged by Lucy’s family and friends to quit the chase, but Henry doesn’t want to give up.

Through Henry’s exploits you will meet a wide range of characters that will have you laughing throughout.

While 50 First Dates is no masterpiece and nothing different than what we have seen from a Sandler movie before, it does serve its purpose by keeping you laughing and has a bit of a different ending than I expected.

I can say you won’t mind seeing it in the theaters, but you also won’t be missing anything and will be equally satisfied waiting for it on DVD.
