‘Duplex’ Movie Review (2003)

When you hear a movie is supposed to be funny you think to yourself, “I should laugh at this movie.” In terms of Duplex that thought goes out the window and you learn that assuming things really does make an ASS out of you.

After all the horrible reviews for this year’s Gigli we have Duplex and with it comes Alex (Stiller) and Nancy (Barrymore), a young couple looking for a place to start their lives together and start a family. Alex is a blossoming author while Nancy works for a magazine and the two of them have stumbled on a duplex that seems too good to be true. The only odd feature is an elderly upstairs rent-controlled tenant named Mrs. Connelly.

Through a series of annoying little habits Mrs. Connelly drives Alex and Nancy into a murderous rage and a lot of non-funny predicaments.

Duplex is the first movie I have watched where I actually hated every single cast member. You couldn’t feel sorry for Alex and Nancy and the fact that Mrs. Connelly is their tenant and they never lay down the law is just frustrating.

Obvious jokes and annoyingly frustrating situations make this one of the worst movies I have ever had the opportunity to sit through.

If you decide to spend your money on this one don’t blame me, you have been warned.
