Screen Gems has debuted the first teaser trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution, which will continue the Resident Evil franchise into a fifth installment on the heels of the highly successful fourth installment, Resident Evil: Afterlife, which looks like a moderate success if you only consider its $60 million domestic haul/. Then you notice it made $236 million internationally and you begin to think they could make these movies forever. Of course, the fact that film was taking advantage of 3D prices plays into things, as will this one, but is that a ticketing fad that is dying quick or will this one continue the success?
Critics weren’t invited to screen Afterlife so I never ended up seeing it, making it the first Resident Evil film I missed and I expect Retribution will stay clear of the critical mass as well as Milla Jovovich returns as Alice to help save mankind from the deadly T-virus that continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead.
This time around it’s a globe-trotting affair that will take her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends — Sienna Guillory, Michelle Rodriguez and Oded Fehr are all back — Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion.
The film hits theaters on September 14 and this is just a small taste.
