Trailer for ‘Elite Squad: The Enemy Within’, Brazil’s 2012 Oscar Foreign Language Submission

Apple has debuted the trailer for Brazil’s Oscar Foreign Language submission, Elite Squad: The Enemy Within. The film, which is directed by Jose Padilha, is the sequel to 2007’s Elite Squad, which dealt with police corruption in Brazil while centering on the Brazilian special forces police unit BOPE.

Enemy Within again centers on Wagner Moura‘s character, Captain Nascimento, only this time he’s been promoted to a powerful government position, where he thinks he’ll finally be able to put an end to Rio de Janeiro gans, but he instead finds out he’s only made things easier for the dirty cops and corrupt politicians by removing himself from the action.

The original film earned quite a bit of fanfare. Moura will be seen in District 9 helmer, Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium and Padilha was at one point up for the job directing the RoboCop remake. I watched the first one back in July and while I enjoyed it, I was really turned off by the amount of voice over used, which may seem like a small nit pick, but once it tailed off toward the end the film became much, much better.

Everything said, Elite Squad: The Enemy Within hits theaters on November 11 thanks to Variance Films and Flatiron Film Company. Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think.
