‘The Avengers’ DP Used the iPhone 4 for Some of the Shots in the Film

Well, how’s this for an Apple commercial, The Avengers director of photography, Seamus McGarvey, tells IFTN (via DarkHorizons) he used the iPhone 4 for some of the shots in the movie. And not only did some of those shots make it into the final film, some of them were included in the first trailer.

“The beauty of photography or cinema is that you make every choice based on the content at hand,” McGarvey said. “On The Avengers, I did a couple of shots on the iPhone and they are in the movie. In fact, they are in the trailer! I understand that sometimes there is no choice and you have to go for the cheapest option, but if you are limited for choice, you can still make poignant decisions that will effect the look of the film.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of someone using an iPhone 4 to make a film, several filmmakers have been doing it since the product’s launch and even Park Chan-wook shot a 30-minute short called Paranmanjang (Ups and Downs) earlier this year.
