New ‘Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows’ Trailer Offers Up the Return of Rachel McAdams

It was a bit of a question mark as to whether or not Rachel McAdams would return as Irene Adler in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows for quite some time. Then she showed up in some set photos and now she has her first appearance in a new trailer for the film which is set to hit theaters on December 16.

Sherlock Holmes 2 brings Robert Downey Jr. back as Holmes and Jude Law back as Watson as the two face off against the criminal mastermind at large–Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)–and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective.

Guy Ritchie is back in the director’s chair and along with McAdams, Downey Jr. and Law are joined by Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as the rifle-toting gypsy Sim and Stephen Fry (V for Vendetta) as Sherlock’s brother Mycroft Holmes.
