‘Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves Hired to Direct New ‘The Twilight Zone’

When we The Twilight Zone, a film the studio hopes to get moving on quickly.

Word is the Jason Rothenberg script is based on the classic Rod Serling series and is expected to be one big sci-fi action film with a single freestanding story, linked to the original series in that it shares that familiarly eerie feel. This is a different take compared to the 1983 feature which featured four independent segments directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins), John Landis (An American Werewolf in London ), George Miller (The Road Warrior) and Steven Spielberg (Close Encounters of the Third Kind).

I recently watched the original and commented on it only a couple of weeks ago and would have loved to see them go the anthology route again, but I guess invention is hardly the Hollywood motto nowadays. That said, I like their decision to go with Reeves, especially if they aren’t going to go for high profile helmers directing individual segments. He’s obviously got a taste for sci-fi and story. I’m interested in seeing what he will do with this.

Deadline says the hope is to get Reeves aboard quickly, continue to work on the script and get the picture into production by next summer.

Reeves last directed Let Me In, a remake of the Swedish vampire feature Let the Right One In.
