Diesel Reveals More ‘Riddick’ Art, Refn Wants to Work with Mulligan Again and Von Trier’s ‘Nymphomaniac’

I’ll begin with a quick Vin Diesel Facebook update (via Coming Soon) in which he gives us the above piece of concept art as well as confirms Universal is going for an R rating for Riddick, the third film in the franchise that began with Pitch Black in 2000. Back in May, the star said he would have to work for scale (actors’ minimum wage) upfront in order to get the film an R rating, so it appears the studio is going ahead with that arrangement.

Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn has suggested he’d like to reunite with actress Carey Mulligan on a future project called I Walk With The Dead, an original story that the filmmaker says “takes place in Miami and it’s just going to have a lot of sex in it.” Refn has reportedly been working on the film for a few years, though it will come after he completes the crime thriller Only God Forgives, which he’ll soon begin filming in Bangkok with Ryan Gosling, Kristin Scott Thomas and Luke Evans. “I’ve always wanted to make a movie with lots of sex,” he said.

In fact, this is a very sex-filled roundup as we move along to the next film from the always-controversial Lars von Trier, tentatively titled The Nymphomaniac. He tells The Independent the film will follow “the erotic life of a woman from the age of zero to the age of 50.” He plans on filming two versions of the film — a “hardcore” version and a “softcore” version that you will be able to show in cinemas. Von Trier’s research for the film has taken him to meetings with doctors, nymphomaniacs, and “all the girls from when (he) was young who were screwing around like hell.” He insists the film is not “a porn” and will feature a lot of talking, while Stellan Skarsgard tells Entertainment Weekly he has landed the lead.

In an interview that will appear in the October issue of Esquire magazine (excerpt from Daily Mail) Gary Oldman reveals he has plans to direct a project starring Colin Firth. He revealed very little about the project, aside from noting that it is a remake. Oldman and Firth connected while co-starring in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, which has received rave reviews after it’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will see a December release stateside.

And finally, John Carpenter revealed in an interview with Fangoria that he is currently working on a gothic horror film (and not necessarily a horror-western), but recognizes the difficulty in getting Westerns made these days. “I got into this business to make Westerns, and I got typecast as a horror director after Halloween,” he explained.

Back in June he told Movieline (via The Playlist) about a project called The Benders, which would center on a family of German immigrants who ran a general store in Kansas and murdered people along the road in the 1870s. Carpenter also revealed his desire to work with Amy Adams, which has some web journalists suggesting he’d like her to star in the film since the script features a juicy role for a woman who sexually lures in the family’s victims. Sounds a lot like The Devil’s Rejects to me, but I’d be surprised if anything materializes as it seems Carpenter has lost his fastball over the years.
