From the Directors of ‘Persepolis’ Comes the French Trailer for ‘Chicken with Plums’

French production company Celluloid Dreams has debuted the French trailer for Chicken with Plums, the follow-up film from Persepolis directors Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, which will be premiering at the Venice Film Festival followed by a North American debut in Toronto shortly thereafter.

The film begins in Tehran, 1958 where Nasser Ali Khan (Mathieu Amalric), the most celebrated violin player, has his beloved instrument broken. Unable to find another to replace it, life without music seems intolerable. He stays in bed and slips further and further into his reveries from his youth to his own children’s futures. Over the course of the week that follows, and as the pieces of the story fall into place, an understanding is reached as to why he would give up life for music and love.

Along with Amalric, the film co-stars Isabella Rossellini, Maria de Madieros, Jamel Debbouze, Chiara Mastroianni and Edouard Baer.

I’m sorry, but the trailer is 100% in French without subtitles and can be watched in HD right here, but it does give you some insight as to the film’s visuals and tone. It’s one I hope to find a place for in my schedule in Toronto and hopefully we will have a subtitled version I can replace this with soon.

The film will hit theaters in France on October 26, but it does not yet have a domestic distributor. You can also check out three images from the film, which I just uploaded, here.
