Downey Jr. Dishes Briefly On ‘Iron Man 3’ Writer/Director Shane Black

Robert Downey Jr. recently spoke with Hero Complex, offering an Iron Man 3 update. As previously reported, the film will reunite Downey with his Kiss Kiss Bang Bang writer/director Shane Black after he replaced Jon Favreau, who directed the first two Iron Man films.

While the shoot for the $624 million grossing sequel was notoriously tumultuous, especially between director Jon Favreau and his star, Downey seems to be on the same page with his writer/director this time around. Here’s what Downey had to say about new Black:

“He’s more than the sum of his parts and he’s also kind of been a sleeper for a long time. We’re not talking much about [the script] right now because Shane is off writing and we talked before that and when we are talking again the talking is going to be over pretty quick [because we’re on the same page]. It’s kind of like we’re fighting on the same side and at the same time we’re circling each other, so it’s all great. It should be great.”

The star also joined the recent trend of throwing your own film under the bus, recognizing now that (in regards to Iron Man 2) a lot of things worked but plenty of other things didn’t.

As for Favreau, he and Downey are back on friendly terms and they’ve both expressed an interest in bringing back Favreau’s on-screen character Happy Hogan for the film when it hits cinemas in May 2013.
