When he isn’t crashing $1 million sports cars, Rowan Atkinson is best known as Mr. Bean, the funny store clerk in Love, Actually or as Johnny English, the comedic spy he played in 2003’s Johnny English. Well, now he’s at it again, eight years later in the sequel I don’t remember anyone asking for… Johnny English Reborn and today I have a new trailer, poster and seven additional images from the film to share with you.
Johnny English Reborn is set to hit theaters on October 28 and in his latest adventure, English must stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos. The film co-stars Gillian Anderson, Dominic West, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Kaluuya and Richard Schiff.
Personally, I’m not particularly interested in this film, but I will say there is a chance it could be good. Atkinson is a funny guy, but I just find him funnier when he’s playing a normal person with quirks rather than an outlandish or stupid character. I guess some of the few people I entrust to such a character is Peter Sellers, Mel Brooks or Gene Wilder, but then again, a lot of it depends on the cast surrounding these people just as much as it does the actor themselves.
With the original Johnny English I didn’t find much humor coming from the supporting cast, especially John Malkovich and what the hell was Natalie Imbruglia doing there? It left Atkinson twisting in the wind as the lone idiot, and as I mentioned in my review of 30 Minutes or Less, I don’t find idiots all that funny if the comedy is supposed to be found merely in their idiocy.
