Yesterday Variety report Walton Goggins (“The Shield”) had joined the cast of G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation and would play an original character named Warden Nigel James. Goggins is just the latest in a long line of names lining up to film the sequel to 2009’s $150 million box-office success G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra as he joins Channing Tatum, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, D.J. Cotrona, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Joe Mazzello and Bruce Willis in the feature.
Goggins is gaining attention at the moment with an upcoming role in Rod Lurie’s Straw Dogs as well as landing a role in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.
Directed by Jon M. Chu (Step Up 3D, Never Say Never), G.I. Joe 2 began shooting today where The Rock tweeted the following image of him as Roadblock in what he described as 110-degree weather. The film is shooting in New Orleans and the consensus online seems to be this is from a desert set in Shreveport. Unfortunately Johnson wasn’t specific about where, just a matter of how hot it is.
G.I. Joe 2 hits theaters on June 29, 2012.
