First Official Look at Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

From out of nowhere comes your first official look at Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) in The Dark Knight Rises. Well, out of nowhere isn’t exactly accurate. I first found the image courtesy of Ain’t It Cool News who found it at SuperheroHype, but no matter the source it has finally arrived for you to scrutinize and approve. The question is… Do you approve?

I took a friend to go see a midnight screening of Rise of the Planet of the Apes tonight and the conversation eventually turned to The Dark Knight Rises. When I mentioned Hathaway as Catwoman his face cringed. However, he then uttered the words I think most people have been saying over the last six years, “Well, I guess we need to just trust in Christopher Nolan.” Trust indeed.

Personally, while this is clearly an “official” look at Hathaway in character, I have a hard time believing we’re looking at an image from the film. It looks more like a shot from a photo shoot and therefore I don’t think much of an opinion can be had. Sure, people will point out the goggles as she straddles the Batpod (or should it be called a Catpod?), but if she’s rumbling through Gotham in the middle of the night on that bad boy I have a hard time believing she won’t look cool as hell with those blue lights shining as she speeds by in the darkness.

Nevertheless, I’m done looking too close at the pic. It is what it is and I’ll wait to see the final product on screen come July 20, 2012. Here’s the official synopsis for those that aren’t up to date and you can get a larger look at the pic right here.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ The Dark Knight Rises is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy,

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar winner Christian Bale (The Fighter) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake.

Returning to the main cast, Oscar winner Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on Batman Begins and the record-breaking blockbuster The Dark Knight. The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.
