First Look Pictures from ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’

The images you see here first hit the Internet a little while back as ugly scans from “Empire” magazine, but I am now glad I held off as Empire has now debuted them in pristine quality so you can get a good first look at Nicolas Cage and Idris Elba in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, a film co-director Mark Neveldine told Empire “it’s not a sequel”. Um, okay.

The story follows Johnny Blaze, played by Nicolas Cage as he reprises the role he played in the first Ghost Rider a completely unrelated film with the same character, as he is hiding out in Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse, which comes as the result of selling his soul to the devil causing him to become the fiery Ghost Rider, a supernatural agent of vengeance and justice.

Blaze is, however, recruited to take on the devil (Ciaran Hinds), who wants to take over Blaze’s mortal son’s body on his birthday. You have to wonder, do bad guys know it would be much easier to pull bad things off if they tried doing them on more arbitrary days rather than on birthdays? I mean, how about trying to take over someone’s body on a regular ol’ Wednesday?

Oh well, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance co-stars Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth and was written and is co-directed by the Crank boys, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. It’s set to hit theaters in 2D and 3D on February 17, 2012. Check out the other two new pics directly below.
