First Official Trailer for Kevin Smith’s ‘Red State’ Arrives In Advance of Its Oscar Qualifying Run

Okay, calling this the “first official” trailer is sort of incorrect since writer/director Kevin Smith released one trailer prior to this as he independently took his latest film, Red State, on a direct-to-the-fans “Red State U.S.A. Tour”, which began at Radio City Music Hall in New York on March 5th and finished one month later at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. However, this is the first trailer since the film was picked up by Lionsgate for a video on demand release this coming September 1.

Red State stars Michael Parks, John Goodman, Dermot Mulroney, Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano, Stephen Root, Kevin Pollak and Melissa Leo and centers on a group of misfits who encounter extreme fundamentalism in Middle America.

Now, for the more interesting little nugget, Smith has been quite adamant when it comes to his thoughts on the performances in the film, and, unless I’m mistaken, the performance of Michael Parks specifically. As it turns out, the film will now enjoy an Oscar qualifying run for one week in Los Angeles, starting August 19 at the New Beverly. Following the video on demand release, the “Red State U.S.A. Tour” is expected to pick up again this fall, beginning on what I believe to be October 19.

All of that said, there’s also a new poster to accompany this new trailer (via The Playlist), both of which I’ve included directly below. I didn’t watch the trailer, but from what I understand the language may not be safe for work.
