I Challenge You Not to Watch the Red Band Trailer for ‘Drive’ Starring Ryan Gosling

I know I can’t tell you what to do, but my suggestion is to simply take my advice and on September 16 go see Drive in which Ryan Gosling plays a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of LA’s most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the ex-con boyfriend (Oscar Isaac) of his beautiful neighbor (Carey Mulligan) in a job that goes dangerously awry.

I saw the film at Cannes earlier this year and in my “A+” review I opened with the following paragraph:

As blood dripped down Ryan Gosling’s face in director Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive the Cannes audience couldn’t help but laugh. It wasn’t a laugh as a result of something funny, it was a laugh of relief as this year’s Cannes Film Festival has offered an abundance of diversity and Drive appears to be the aggressive, head-stomping capstone. But as violent and intense as this film can be, it has its share of honest laughs and silent moments, making for the best film I saw at this year’s festival.

Perhaps that paragraph will make you want to watch this trailer even more, and I will say, it’s a good trailer. But still, my challenge to you is to simply wait and see it all at once. Are you up to the task?
