New Clip and Trailer for the Killer Sci-Fi/Comedy ‘Attack the Block’

I saw Attack the Block last night for a second time; 1) because I like it and 2) because only three hours ago I was sitting down with writer/director Joe Cornish and the film’s lead star John Boyega to talk about the film here in Seattle, one of seven cities the film will be released in on July 29.

I’ve already reviewed the film (read that here) where I called it “something like Goonies meets Gremlins meets Half Baked” and I included it on my list of the best films of 2011 so far. Now I have the domestic trailer and a clip from the feature to show you, though I present them with a few notes and a suggestion.

Personally, neither of these videos do the film much justice, though you do get a good sampling of the Basement Jaxx score, which is something of an urban techno beat mixed with an ’80s alien vibe. Also, the domestic trailer is simply the previous red band trailer with the swearing removed, which actually destroys the solid one-liners. My advice, maybe watch the clip to meet the boys, but if you want a trailer check out the red band version right here.

The film hits limited theaters in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, San Francisco, Seattle, Austin and Chicago on July 29. Look out for it, it’s a good one and I’ll have my interview with Joe and John online next week.

Clip “Need a Weapon”

Attack the Block follows a gang of tough inner-city kids who rob Sam (Whittaker) as she is walking home in a scary South London tower block. She flees when the gang is attacked by a small alien creature which falls from the sky. While Sam and the police hunt for the gang, a second wave of creatures falls. The gang grabs weapons, mount bikes, and set out to defend their turf. But this time, the creatures are much bigger. Savage and bestial, nothing will stand in their way. And the bunch of no-hope kids who just attacked Sam are about to become her only hope.
