Lionsgate Debuts the Official ‘Hunger Games’ Poster

Yesterday saw the release of a motion poster for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, based on the first novel of the trilogy by Suzanne Collins, and today we get the far less annoying official static poster for the film, which is pretty much the same thing, but doesn’t have audio and fiery sound effects to taunt us.

The film is the first in a trilogy and stars Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) as Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old living in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Every year, a boy and girl are chosen from each of the country’s 12 districts to fight each other to the death until only one remains. Katniss is from one of the poorest districts, but she is skilled in archery and hunting, which makes her a fierce competitor. Katniss wears a mockingjay pin — the flaming symbol on the poster — which is a sign of rebellion against Panem’s oppressive government.

The film co-stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Dayo Okeniyi, Amandla Stenberg, Elizabeth Banks, Leven Rambin, Jack Quaid, Willow Shields, Paula Malcomson, Ian Nelson, Kalia Prescott, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz and Donald Sutherland and was co-written and directed by Gary Ross (Seabiscuit).

Lionsgate will release the feature on March 23, 2012. For a larger look at the poster click here.

Additionally, if you would like to check out the official website, it has opened as well right here.
