Columbia has debuted the official teaser trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man today following yesterday’s brief glimpse at a bootlegged version granting audiences their first look at Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) as he steps into the Spidey suit in this new reboot of the franchise, and as this trailer indicates, we are once again setting off with an origin story. Director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) told “Entertainment Weekly” this film is going to be a “more contemporary,” “more gritty” and “more character-driven” look at the comic book hero.
The trailer, along with some additional footage, is expected to debut at the San Diego Comic Con tomorrow and will be shown in front of screenings of Captain America: The First Avenger this weekend.
The film is set to hit 2D and 3D theaters on July 3, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
