Diablo Cody Revising ‘Evil Dead’ Remake, Skarsgard Set for Viking Tale and David Goyer Scripting ‘Godzilla’

We have an official update to this morning’s Evil Dead remake story as well as news of a new film for Alexander Skarsgard, a potential new project for Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman and David Goyer is penning a new script. Get all the details below…

Alexander Skarsgard (“True Blood”, Straw Dogs) is attached to star and, for the first time, produce The Vanguard, an epic Viking pitch to be written by playwright Chris Boal, half-brother of The Hurt Locker scripter Mark Boal. The story follows the adventures of two Viking warrior brothers who embark on a journey to return to Sweden after being banished to North America. [Variety]

Warner Bros. has picked up a new, untitled project from the duo behind Being John Malkovich and Adaptation, director Spike Jonze and writer Charlie Kaufman with Joaquin Phoenix attached to star. All that’s known about the plot is that it is a satire about how world leaders gather to figure out all the seismic events that will take place in the world, from oil prices to wars that will be waged. A March 2012 start date is being eyed for production. [Twitch]

Scott Eastwood, the youngest son of actor/director Clint Eastwood, has been set for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D for director John Luessenhop (Takers). He joins previously cast Bill Moseley, Alexandra Daddario and Tania Raymonde and will play Carl, the male lead, in the film which centers on Nikki, a small-town girl who travels to a Texas small-town to collect her inheritance, which includes her deranged cousin Leatherface. Production begins this week in Louisiana for an October 5, 2012 release. [Deadline]

David Goyer (The Dark Knight) will pen the screenplay, from a draft written by David Callaham (The Expendables), for Legendary Pictures’ new version of Godzilla. The remake of the 1954 Toho original has been talked about for quite some time so there is no telling if this will finally be the script to get it off the ground. [Deadline]

Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) is in negotiations to take the last remaining dwarf role in Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman joining previously cast dwarfs Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Bob Hoskins, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Graham and Ray Winstone. The film is part of plans for a trilogy with this first installment set to hit theaters on June 1, 2012 under the direction of Rupert Sanders. Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth play the film’s leads. Eddie Izzard was previously listed as one of the dwarfs, but it appears Frost may be replacing him. [Showblitz]

Ghost House Pictures just sent over a press release confirming the news I posted this morning regarding a fourth Evil Dead film. The release says Fede Alvarez co-wrote the film with Rodo Sayagues and Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body) is currently doing revisions on the draft. Ghost House is committed to renewing the franchise and has the film on the fast track with Alvarez set to direct. Sam Raimi and original producing partners Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell (who also starred in the original franchise) are producing the pic, which is described as a remake.
