Are You Interested in Seeing ‘Tintin’? Let this New Trailer Help You Decide

I get the impression anticipation for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin is a bit divided. Personally, I’m not too interested in seeing another motion capture CG feature as the animation in these things tends too look like they are trying really hard to create lifelike characters and end up failing miserably.

I watched the Dark Horizons obviously has and posts the following with his article on this latest trailer:

The target audience seems to be skewing younger than the books do… There’s some major story changes from the books though. ‘The Crab with the Golden Claws’ elements are being incorporated in an unusual way with the more straight forward ‘The Secret of the Unicorn’ stuff. There’s nothing essentially from the ‘Red Rackham’s Treasure’ storyline on display which makes one think it’ll be mostly ignored… Most notably is that the Red Rackham character (Daniel Craig) is completely different from the books – turning what was a minor flashback pirate character into the film’s present-era antagonist, essentially adding a villain to a story that didn’t really have one.

The above doesn’t mean anything to me, but I’m sure if you’re a fan of Herge’s source material it means something to you.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is directed by Steven Spielberg and features an impressive voice cast that includes Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Daniel Craig, Toby Jones, Mackenzie Crook, Gad Elmaleh, Cary Elwes, Tony Curran and Daniel Mays. Dreamworks and Sony are set to release the film on December 23, have a look at the trailer below and let me know what you think in the comments.

One question I have is whether or not we are looking at a Best Animated Feature contender as the animated race looks to be quite a toss up this year with Rango being the current leader… in my opinion.
