Zimmer Preps to Score ‘Dark Knight Rises’, Boyle Considers Firth and Johansson and Sandler is Dracula

It’s been really slow on the news front these past few days with the July Fourth holiday here in the States, but I have managed to compile five stories perhaps worth a few minutes of your time. We’ve got Hans Zimmer briefly talking about preparing for to score The Dark Knight Rises, potential candidates for Danny Boyle’s next film, Adam Sandler is Dracula and a couple other nuggets of info. Get all the details below…

Adam Sandler will voice the lead role of Count Dracula in Sony Pictures Animation’s 3D family comedy Hotel Transylvania, which is currently set for a September 21, 2012 release. The film will be directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and centers on the Prince of Darkness, as the owner of Hotel Transylvania, a five-star resort for the world’s monsters where he protects Mavis, his teenage daughter. But when a curious young traveler discovers the hotel — and Mavis — the overprotective dad must use his powers of persuasion to keep her from falling in love. [Variety]

I recently wondered if Paramount was going to use the “Heroes are made in America” tagline overseas and I guess we get some kind of answer today as the “Captain America” part of the Captain America: The First Avenger will be dropped in at least three territories — Russia, Ukraine and South Korea — where it will simply be known as The First Avenger. Apparently Universal is planning on turning Snow White and the Huntman, which stars Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and many others, into a trilogy as the film’s producer, Joe Roth said, “It’s meant to be the first in a series of films. This story will end, but there will be questions remaining for these three characters.” The first film in this now-planned trilogy hits theaters on June 1, 2012 under the direction of Rupert Sanders. I was previously a bit confused as to what role James McAvoy would be playing in Danny Boyle‘s Trance, but it now turns out the Simon role is not the leader of a gang of thieves hired by an auction house employee to steal a painting, but in fact he is the auction house employee. Now it turns out Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson are rumored to be up for roles in the feature as well.

Firth is apparently in contention for the role of Aiden, the actual leader of the gang, and Johansson, along with the likes of Zoe Saldana and Melanie Thierry, are on a shortlist to play a female hypnotist who has to try and hypnotize Simon to get details on the painting the gang has been brought in to steal. Michael Fassbender was previously attached to play Aiden, but has since dropped out. [Twitch]

Hans Zimmer will once again compose the score for Christopher Nolan’s latest Batman feature, The Dark Knight Rises, and he has divulged some of what he’s been listening to as he prepares. “I’ve been listening to a lot of Verdi lately,” he said. “And Alison Goldfrapp, and a lot of electronica as I’m heading into Dark Knight territory again.” [BBC via The Playlist]
