Spielberg Wants to Put a Raptor in a Refrigerator and Nuke It

Let me guess, if Steven Spielberg and screenwriter Mark Protosevich (Thor, I Am Legend) can figure out a way to make Jurassic Park 4 will it be for the fans just as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was? If so, you can keep it.

Spielberg and Protosevich teamed back in 2008 when they were working on a potential remake of Chan-wook Park’s Oldboy that was to star Will Smith. However, that project fell apart despite news last November that Matthew Vaughn and Danny Boyle were next in line should Spielberg pass.

However, while the Oldboy drama unspooled, Spielberg and Protosevich have met twice to fashion a story for a potential fourth film in the franchise. Despite this small amount of movement, both Universal and Spielberg’s camp stress that no one has been engaged to write a script and that the discussions have been purely exploratory.

Now I have to say, I have been running this site since 2003 and the earliest record I can find of me reporting on a potential Jurassic Park 4 was December 2008 when producer Kathleen Kennedy was quoted saying, “No… I don’t know. You know, when [“Jurassic Park” author Michael Crichton] passed away, I sorta felt maybe that’s it. Maybe that’s a sign that we don’t mess with it.”

Things could change, but I’m not holding my breath.

In other Jurassic Park news, if you hadn’t heard yet, the trilogy is expected to hit Blu-ray later this year in time for the holidays. Perhaps if sales on that set are through the roof Universal will take a serious look at a fourth film.
