UPDATED: Returning Cast Member Prompts ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Plot Guesswork

NOTE: You may interpret most of this article as a spoiler, so if you are trying to stay clear of story points, leave now.

UPDATE: This story has been confirmed by Variety saying “Liam Neeson will be reprising the villainous role of Ra’s al Ghul and has already filmed a scene on location in London.”

Personally, I guess this is a spoiler in that it hints at what the film’s plot may be, but I really don’t think it ruins all that much as HitFix has received word that Liam Neeson, who played Ra’s Al-Ghul in Batman Begins, has been seen shooting scenes for The Dark Knight Rises in London. However, the nature of those scenes is unclear, and with the casting of Josh Pence (The Social Network) as a young Ra’s Al-Ghul this could simply mean we’re talking about more flashback scenes, though I think it should be quite clear now that the League of Shadows will most likely play a heavy role in this third film in Nolan’s Batman franchise.

Apparently, previous set photos leading people to speculate the Lazarus Pits will be in the film are now leading people to believe Ra’s al Ghul will be resurrected. That, to me, sounds a bit too far fetched for the franchise Nolan has created.

The Dark Knight Rises is currently shooting, seemingly all over the world, for a July 20, 2012 release date with Christian Bale returning as Batman along with Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman and newcomers Tom Hardy playing Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon Levitt.
