Teaser Trailer for James Wan’s ‘Insidious’

I must admit, when I learned James Wan’s (Saw) Insidious was rated PG-13 it was a bit of a letdown. The title alone led me to believe we may be in for something sinister, something other than just another PG-13 frightener.

Insidious might actually be something different, but the fact Wan went from kick-starting the Saw franchise with Leigh Whannell to the lackluster Dead Silence and disappointing Death Sentence doesn’t exactly inspire much confidence. Then again, this is his first PG-13 rated film so maybe there is something to that rating.

The film was picked up out of the Toronto International Film Festival by the new distribution house Film District and is set for an April 1 release opposite Hop and Source Code as some sort of early year alternate programming.

Insidious follows a young family that makes the terrifying discovery that the body of their comatose boy has become a magnet for malevolent entities, while his consciousness lies trapped in the dark in an insidious realm known as “The Further.” Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, Barbara Hershey and Leigh Whannell (who also wrote the script) star.

Will this film freak us out or just be a disappointment? The trailer is mildly interesting so I’m certainly up for giving it a chance and hope for the best. How about you?
