Favreau Talks Marvel’s Plans for ‘Iron Man 3’

MTV sat down with director Jon Favreau to talk about Cowboys and Aliens and turned the conversation to the Marvel universe in search of what exactly Favreau knows when it comes to how everything will shake out. Considering Favreau directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2 he obviously has closest ties to that aspect of the Avengers franchise and spoke on where he understands things are heading with the following statement:

Kevin Feige, who’s been involved with superhero movies with Marvel movies since the X-Men films, is very aware of his path and how to weave [things together], so in theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers… This whole world… I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.

Iron Man 3 is currently slated for a May 3, 2013 release, one year after The Avengers with both films now being distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Paramount’s last two films in this particular world will be Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, both of which will be in theaters next summer.

At this point I wonder if there is any chance Favreau returns to direct Iron Man 3. It seemed as if the second film was the last go ’round for him, but I suspect there’s always the likelihood they’ll talk him into one more time. Have a look at the video below and let me know what you think of what he has to say in the comments below.
