Trailer and Poster for Catherine Hardwicke’s ‘Red Riding Hood’

I saw this trailer last night before my screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I and I must say outside of the rather intimidating effect done for Gary Oldman’s voice (unless he did that on his own) the trailer for Catherine Hardwicke’s Red Riding Hood reeks of the moniker given it… “From the director of Twilight.”

Apple just debuted both the trailer and the poster you see to the right for the film, which is set to hit theaters on March 11, the same weekend as Columbia’s Battle: Los Angeles, Disney’s Mars Needs Moms and the upcoming Focus release of Jane Eyre. Suffice to say, there are at least two films I think I’d rather be watching that weekend, but it seems like WB is really going to work the Twilight angle on this one, perhaps hoping fans that believe Hardwicke was side-stepped when the directing gig for The Twilight Saga: New Moon went to Chris Weitz will come out to support her film as she finally gets a chance to direct something with a wolf in it.

The film stars Amanda Seyfried as the titular “Red” and she co-stars alongside Gary Oldman, Billy Burke (ahhh, another Twilight connection), Shiloh Fernandez , Max Irons, Virginia Madsen and Julie Christie. The official synopsis is as follows:

In Red Riding Hood, Seyfried plays Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Max Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life. Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. As panic grips the town, Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast–one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect… and bait.

With all that said, check out the trailer directly below and stay tuned as I am sure I will have hi-res images for you to gaze upon very soon.
