Back in May, Deadline report Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix, Speed Racer) were working on what was described as “a heist film with a lesbian romance.” The description harkened back to their 1996 film Bound starring Gina Gerson and Jennifer Tilly telling the story of an ex con (Gershon) and her lover Violet (Tilly) who scheme to steal millions of stashed mob money and pin the blame on Violet’s crooked boyfriend Caeser. This new film, however, takes it a bit farther as Deadline adds:
This one’s a drama that focuses on a “hard R” homosexual relationship between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi. It’s a cinéma vérité-style treatment that begins in the near future and then spans back over years that include the current war in Iraq. I’ve heard the siblings completed the script, want to direct it next, and that it is out to financiers.
It wasn’t the first time we’d heard of the film, though, back in December 2009 Arianna Huffington was tweeting photos from the set of the film, which were confirmed to have just been tests.
Today it appears things have moved on a bit further as Production Weekly just tweete a message saying, “Lora Kennedy has begun casting on The Wachowski’s next project titled CN9.”
A quick search for what “CN9” means reveals it refers to the “9th Cranial Nerve” and is one of twelve pairs of cranial nerves referred to as the glossopharyngeal nerve and is related to the tongue and the pharynx. How this relates to the story is beyond me, but perhaps some of you may have a theory.
