David O. Russell Adds ‘Aaron and Sarah’ to His Upcoming Slate

Despite the financial troubles David O. Russell had with his upcoming feature, Nailed, it isn’t stalling his career any even though he isn’t necessarily a director known for churning out a film each year — or even a film every four years for that matter.

Since directing Three Kings back in 1999, Russell has only directed I Heart Huckabees and a short titled Soldiers Pay in 2004. After Nailed he has already lined up a filmed adaptation of Matthew Quick’s debut novel “The Silver Linings Playbook: A Novel,” which was announced on March 29, and now we learn from Variety he is eying the romantic comedy Aaron and Sarah for Fox.

Aaron and Sarah centers on a nerdy guy and a popular girl who meet as freshmen and, over four years of high school, four proms and one funeral, become friends and eventually fall in love. The script was written by the husband and wife team Chad Gomez Creasey and Dara Resnik Creasey. Word is it is akin to a Joh Hughes comedy, which certainly sounds much more straight forward and simple than Russell is used to.
