YOU VOTE: Road to Oscar Noms – Best Director

Today is a double-dip as yesterday opened the voting booths to get your Oscar nominee predictions beginning with Best Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress voting and today you can vote for Best Actor and Best Actress right here and below we take a look at the Best Director category where most predict we are dealing with a battle between Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) and David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), but it can’t be down to just those two can it?

Taking a look back at my first predictions for the category back on November 20 my take on Best Director looked like this:

  1. David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button)
  2. Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire)
  3. Jonathan Demme (Rachel Getting Married)
  4. Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road)
  5. Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight)

My most recent predictions look like this:

  1. David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button)
  2. Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire)
  3. Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight)
  4. Gus Van Sant (Milk)
  5. Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon)

Mendes and Demme were the two casualties after almost two months of predictions as I have Nolan moving up a pair of places. This is hardly an open and shut category and I still think Fincher and Boyle have to keep their eyes in the rearview mirror. As much as people have been debating the chances The Dark Knight has at this year’s Oscars I can’t help but wonder if there is just the smallest chance there are just enough Academy members to give it squeak out wins in all of the categories it gets nominated in, including Ledger for Supporting Actor and perhaps Best Picture? More on that tomorrow, but why not Nolan?

Beyond that we also have Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino), Mike Leigh (Happy-Go-Lucky), Stephen Daldry (The Reader) and Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler) to consider. These aren’t bums off the street. Eastwood has already won a directing Oscar. Leigh and Daldry have both been nominated and Aronofsky is just waiting for his turn and who’s to say 2009 isn’t his time?

The answer to that question is fairly obvious, at least for now. Who’s to say is you as I now open the polls for Best Director, and remember, this is about who you THINK will be nominated NOT who you want to be nominated. Have at it…

PREDICT THE OSCAR NOMINEES!

PLEASE SELECT FIVE NAMES IN EACH POLL
REMEMBER: This is for who you THINK will be nominated and NOT who you want to be nominated.

If you vote "Other" please add your comments below as doing so really does nothing for the poll

unless we know who you are thinking about.

The voting ends on January 22 at 2 AM, the nominees are announced shortly thereafter. You can vote on the other topline categories using the links below:
