The idea of a Ricky Gervais hosted Oscar ceremony is just too good to be true and unfortunately it won’t be happening. Gervais was infact approached to do the gig reports BBC but told them he would be “scared” to do it because “I don’t think I’d get the freedom I needed”.
He added, “If it was a fun night and they said you could ad-lib, I’d do it because I really enjoy that.”
Argh, now doesn’t that just twist your cockles?
Makes sense, and Gervais has a pretty good lock on what the duty would entail saying, “No-one’s there to hear jokes, they’re there to see if they’ve won an Oscar… If it was a fun night and they said you could ad-lib, I’d do it because I really enjoy that.” He referred to the task as a “thankless act”.
So where does that leave us? Jon Stewart, Ellen DeGeneres…? I know Jerry Seinfeld has been mentioned in the past but I don’t see that happening either
