Burton Directing Depp in ‘Dark Shadows’ Adaptation?

Burton + Depp = 7?: Peter Segal (Get Smart) told IESB.net that John August is writing a feature film adaptation of the 1966 television series “Dark Shadows” with Tim Burton attached to direct and Johnny Depp rumored to play the lead Barnabus Collins. The Johnny Depp rumor first began back in July 2007, but hasn’t been mentioned since. Should the rumors come true, Dark Shadows would be the seventh film collaboration for Depp and Burton. [IESB]

Kerr Smith Gets Bloody: Kerr Smith is set to star as Axle Palmer in Lionsgate’s My Bloody Valentine 3-D, alongside Jamie King and Jenson Ackles. The film is a remake of the 1981 slasher film about a murderer who kills those who celebrate Valentine’s Day. [Originally reported by Bloody-Disgusting]

Trio in Talks for Emmerich’s 2012: Danny Glover, Thandie Newton and Oliver Platt are all in negotiations to join Roland Emmerich’s disaster pic 2012, which centers on a global cataclysm and tells the heroic struggle of the survivors. At this point shouldn’t we consider a Roland Emmerich flick a disaster pic regardless of subject matter? Glover is in talks to play the president, with Newton in discussions to play his daughter. Hart and Russell to ‘Wake the Dead’: Steve Niles’ graphic novel “Wake the Dead” will be adapted for the screen by James V. Hart and directed by Jay Russell. For a bit of reference Niles wrote the graphic novel “30 Days of Night” which inspired the recent film. “Wake The Dead” is said to reinvent the story of Frankenstein for a new generation. [Variety]

Gewirtz Preps for ‘Final Orbit’: Russell Gewirtz (Inside Man) is set to adapt the thriller comic book “Final Orbit” for Platinum Studios and Valhalla Motion Pictures. The book tells the story of a lottery that gives thrill-seekers a chance to vacation aboard a newly completed International Space Station. But the trips turns nightmarish after the station is damaged, trapping tourists in a crippled module with no trained astronauts to help them. [Variety]
