I gave mention of the release of the third season of “Battlestar Galactica” on DVD just yesterday and told you guys you should definitely check it out, and today we learn that a backdoor prequel called Caprica is in development at SCI-FI, which means that even though “Battlestar” is coming to an end as a series this year it ain’t over yet.
“Battlestar Galactica” is concluding its 3½-year run with 20 final episodes this year, but Caprica is set to begin filming this spring. Obviously it will feature the world of Caprica prior to the Cylon invasion, but to what extent is not known. Will it involve the early days of the Cylons? Will it feature Cylons as they strategically place agents inside the human society? Details are scarce, but there is a world of opportunities.
Listening to some of the commentaries on the season three DVD it sounds as if there is certainly a big finale coming with season four, the only thing I wonder is if anything will be left to potentially take it to the big screen or if the plan is to keep it on television.
The move to release Razor on DVD in an unrated form as well as on television was a pretty cool little move. Perhaps that is the future of “Battlestar”.
Based on the love the show has seen I find it hard to believe a prequel movie will end it all, but who knows, perhaps they want to go out on a high note and leave it at that.
