New Freddy Krueger Franchise On the Way

Variety is reporting that New Line Cinema along with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is prepping a return to the big screen for horror icon Freddy Krueger in an all new horror as-yet-untitled horror franchise. The announcement comes just as Dunes is getting ready to roll on another horror franchise relaunch of Friday the 13th with Cloverfield hottie Odette Yustman starring (the Yustman casting has been found to be false) for director Marcus Nispel, whom many of you will remember from his direction of the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Obviously the Nightmare on Elm Street relaunch is in the very early stages and won’t be able to set a writer until the strike ends, but both franchises are said to be complete overhauls of the originals.

Along with these two films Dunes continues all its remaking fun as a remake of Near Dark and Hitchcock’s The Birds are in the near future.

Friday the 13th is currently eyeing a Friday, February 13, 2009 release.

Here’s a pic of Odette to refresh your memory.
