First Look at Disney’s 2-D ‘Princess and the Frog’

I, for one, am praying Disney’s The Princess and the Frog ends up being one of their highest grossing films in a long time just to prove that 2-D animation is not dead and that it can do just as well as this increasingly annoying CGI animation. Remember back when Disney made really good animated films? Okay, I will admit, it has been awhile, but you know what I am talking about. The days of The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. Now that was animation.

Well, they haven’t completely abandoned it just yet as 2009 will bring us our first major 2-D animated release in some time when Disney releases The Princess and the Frog and David Gibson’s blog brings us our first official look at the Princess.

The film is a musical set in the legendary birthplace of jazz — New Orleans — The Frog Princess will introduce the newest Disney princess, Maddy, a young African-American girl living amid the charming elegance and grandeur of the fabled French Quarter. From the heart of Louisiana’s mystical bayous and the banks of the mighty Mississippi comes an unforgettable tale of love, enchantment and discovery with a soulful singing crocodile, voodoo spells and Cajun charm at every turn. Randy Newman will will write songs and the score for the film.
