If you read anything I write very often I never pass on a chance to rip on Jessica Alba for simply being a pretty face and nothing more. Honestly, the girl couldn’t act if she was asked to play Jessica Alba in Driving Miss Alba. Unfortunately for us she continues to get roles and her latest will be in the remake of the Pang brothers’ The Eye in which she plays, get this, an accomplished, independent, Los Angeles-based concert violinist. I am not saying bad actresses couldn’t actually be violinists, I am saying I don’t think Alba has a talented bone in her body.
Anyway, she is also blind (notice the sunglasses, a common stereotype labeling all blind people and Jack Nicholson) and undergoes a double corneal transplant, a surgery she has waited her whole life to have, and her sight is restored. There is a problem however, the eyes she got aren’t good ones, nope she starts seeing evil visions and all sorts of what not. Honestly, the original is good, but when you involve the words Jessica Alba it all somehow turns to the worse.
How bad could it be right? Well, word is that Lionsgate is once again not going to show this flick to the press either. It’s got to be a sad day working at the Lionsgate publicity department when your films are so bad you don’t want critics to see them. 2007 was a year that saw several Lionsgate films hidden from critics and already 2008 has two with Rambo and now The Eye. Sad day indeed.
As for The Eye we have seven new images for you to look at including directors David Moreau and Xavier Palud (yup, took two of them to make this flick) decision to have Alba yell instead of talk. Apparently she is a much better yeller than talker. Click here or on either of the pics in this article to check out the rest.
The Eye hits theaters on February 1st.
