Sam Raimi Directing ‘Drag Me to Hell’ and then ‘The Hobbit’?

It seems after all the touchy-feely fun of the Spider-Man trilogy Sam Raimi is returning to his genre roots with a supernatural thriller called Drag Me to Hell, which he wrote with his brother, Ivan Raimi.

The film is described as a morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural curse will go into production early next year.

Rob Tapert of Ghost House was quoted saying, “Sam calls it a ‘spook-a-blast,’ a wild ride with all the chills and spills that Evil Dead delivered, without relying on the excessive violence of that film… When one has done three very expensive movies, they get used to eating caviar. Sam will have to ponder what it means to come down from the mountaintop for a moment.”

Interestingly enough the article also speculates that once he finishes with Drag Me to Hell he is the one that will be tackling the recently announced Hobbit films at New Line and MGM. The announcement was only two days ago, but with Peter Jackson only in a producing capacity it was assumed that either Raimi, or potentially Guillermo del Toro or Alfonso Cuaron would take the helm of the fantasy. It, however, would be no surprise if Raimi ultimately landed the helming duties as he has been speculated as the potential usurper for quite some time.
