One can only wonder how the Religious Right is going to take the news that Harry Potter author recently revealed that Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore was in fact gay. HPANA alerted us to the news citing the following incident as it went down as J.K. Rowling was answering questions posed to her at Friday night’s book reading at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Now for the question that stunned the audience – Did Dumbledore love anyone? Jo started to say “I always saw Dumbledore as gay” as a hush fell on the audience followed by a excited response by all in attendance. She went on to say that she had recently read the script for Half-Blood Prince and noticed a passage in which Dumbledore recalled a past female love – she immediately crossed out the passage and added the words “Dumbledore is gay” in the margin.
Perhaps the greatest part of the story is that upon hearing the news the crowd fell silent, but then immediately “exploded” into applause. Perhaps the Religious Right in this country won’t be too happy about it, but it is nice to learn that there are still open-minded people in this country.
I can only assume this will have no affect on Michael Gambon’s performance as the famed wizard in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is set to hit theaters November 21, 2008, but I am sure Warner Bros. isn’t too jazzed about the revelation as I am sure they know gay bashing idiots out there will take the revelation and begin spreading their feelings of stupid around.
