For anyone that saw Evan Almighty I think most of us can agree it is a film we wish had never been made. It was an idea that sounded funny in a boardroom and with Steve Carell aboard it wasn’t thought of again until all of a sudden people clicked and went, “What’s so funny about a flood that kills almost everyone?” Ahh, the catch for that was they found a clever workaround, but said workaround was far from clever and tumble, tumble, tumble went poor Evan, and it seems director Tom Shadyac won’t be bullied… If he wants to tread used ground again he will do so and he just might be doing that with a spec script called Dr. Sensitive for Universal.
While a plot for the “high-concept comedy” (whatever the hell that means) has been kept quiet, The Hollywood Reporter tells us that it is in the same vein as Shadyac’s Liar Liar and involves an insensitive doctor. Now I know you are all laughing at the hypocritical title of the film based on that revelation, because it is quite ironic that he would be an insensitive doctor but still be called Dr. Sensitive. It is quite the knee slapper.
I am not exactly sure how this would be compared to Liar Liar unless the doc’s son makes a wish that his dad would be more sensitive and therefore turn into a bumbling nice guy that cries and … Eureka, could that be it? If so, throw Jim Carrey in the role and get moving.
It isn’t a sure thing that Shadyac will direct as he is only currently sitting in as a producer, but after Evan it would be nice to see him back on the winning track, especially since he was also a producer on the awful I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
Ben Frahm penned the script for Dr. Sensitive.
